Can be either full length or split.

Full length grips start with a fore grip, followed by the reel seat (where the reel is mounted) and then a full grip to the end of the rod. Full length grips are best for heavier rods and use in rod holders.

Split grips consist of a similar format, accept instead of one large grip at the end, the grip is "split" with a smaller grip behind the reel seat and a fighting butt at the the end.

Split grips are lighter than full grips and also offer an additional area of the blank for custom decor/personalization.

Grips can me made from cork, EVA foam, and carbon fiber. Cork is perhaps the lightest and offers a traditional look. EVA is very durable, recommended for use in rod holders, and available in many colors/color combinations.

Carbon fiber offers the best of both worlds-light weight, durable and available in various colors.
